Workshop on environmental youth organisations ends in Accra

Mr Daniel Benefoh, a Director at the Environmental Protection Agency, has stressed the importance of youth participation in policy development at all levels of national engagements.

He said it was important for youth-focused Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to forge a stronger youth environmental movement in Ghana.

Mr Benefoh said this at a day’s workshop in Accra for environmental youth organisations as part of efforts to build the capacity of participants and enhance increased representation on climate change and energy issues.

The participants were trained in policy formulation; highlighting on the development of climate change policies to enable the youth advocate such policies effectively at the national, regional and district levels.

Mr Lovans Owusu-Takyi, Executive Director of the Youth Volunteers for the Environment (YVE) Ghana, organisers of the workshop touched on the importance of promoting renewable energy access to the poor.

A steering committee made up of representatives of YVE, Africa Youth Initiative on Climate Change, The Ghana Youth Climate Coalition, Abibiman Foundation, Ghana Youth Environment Movement, African Centre for Peace Building and Interfaith Ghana was formed to enhance the coordination of the youth towards a stronger environmental youth movement in the country.
