Mr Promise Kumako, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Eye Investigation Services, has stressed the need for Ghana to beef up her surveillance capacities to stay ahead of criminals.
He said there was also the need for the Ghana Police Service to train, regulate and use private investigators to complement its efforts.
Mr Kumako was speaking at a basic security awareness workshop in Ho on Thursday.
He said contributions of private investigators could speed up prosecution and also help crime detection and prevention.
The workshop, which was under the auspices of Courage Foundation International, a Ho-based Non Governmental Organisation, was attended by security heads, chiefs and women groups among others.
Mr Kumako urged government to prioritize the periodic in-service training of security personnel in all areas including Information and Communication Technology.
Mr Courage Dei-Zanga, Director of Courage Foundation International, called for a more purposeful approach to community policing with the help of local informants.
He said a lot of planning was needed to keep crime low in the Ho Municipality as it developed.
