WILDAF congratulates 30 women elected for the next parliament

Mrs Bernice Sam, National Programme Coordinator, Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF) on Thursday congratulated women who won their parliamentary seats during the just ended general election.

She said 30 women have been voted for to represent their constituencies in the next parliament, as compared to the previous parliament which had only 19 females.

Mrs Sam made the remark at a cocktail party organised by WILDAF to celebrate and commemorate the hard work of women.

She said women worked tirelessly in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections and also succeeded to make it peaceful.

Mr Frank Bodza, Programme Manager, noted that Greater Accra has eight women in parliament, Ashanti Region four, Central Region five, Volta Region four, Eastern Region, three, and Brong Ahafo two, while Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Western Regions had one woman each.

He said, this represented 10.9 of people in parliament indicating a massive improvement from the 2008 elections,

He said a lot need to be done so that by 2016 the number would increases with a great margin.
