Workshop On HIV/Aids

A sensitisation workshop on HIV/AIDS for more than 70 participants drawn from various communities in the Asuogyaman District has ended at the district capital at Atimpoku in the Eastern Region.

The workshop was attended by traditional rulers, assembly members, heads of departments and opinion leaders.

Speaking at the workshop, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Dr. G. K. Siaw, observed that the rate at which the disease was fast spreading in the district calls for serious attention to address the problem.

According to Dr. Siaw, statistics on HIV/AIDS have shown that Asuogyaman occupies sixth position from 15 districts in the Eastern Region and, therefore, advised participants to step up educational campaigns on the disease in their various communities.

The Eastern Regional Co-ordinator on HIV/AIDS, Dr. Sampson B. Ofori, advised Ghanaians to disabuse their minds that herbalists have found an antidote for the dreadful disease.

Dr. Ofori said the regional HIV/AIDS office would continue to work hand in hand with the district sensitisation committee to bring the situation under control.
