NPP Is Becoming A ‘Comic Relief’ To Ghanaians – Okudzeto Ablakwa

A Deputy Minister for Information and Member of Parliament (MP) elect for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa describes the protest for justice by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its supporters over electoral fraud as “a comic of relief to Ghanaians.”

He says “the NPP is becoming a comedy of contradictions and a laughing stock in Ghana”.

The NPP has refused to accept the results of the 2012 presidential election results alleging that the outcome of the election was manipulated by the Electoral Commission in favour of the President Elect, John Dramani Mahama.

The MP elect for the North Tongu constituency tells Gold Power Drive host, Alhassan Suhuyini the so called evidence being collected by the NPP is not credible.

He indicates that leading members of the NPP namely; Owusu Afriyie (General Secretary), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (Running mate of Nana Akufo Addo) Osei Mensah kyei Bonsu (Minority leader in Parliament) and Lawyer Ayikwei Otoo (Chairman of the legal team of the NPP) have announced different figures as evidence for the rigged 2012 presidential election.

According to him, the General Secretary of the NPP claims the election was rigged by 1 million votes, the Minority Leader in Parliament claims it was rigged by 150,000 votes, the running mate claims it was rigged by 100,000 votes and Chairman of the legal team claims he does not know the figures.

In another angle, the Deputy Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa, condemns the petition the NPP presented to the Chief Justice in which it is demanding that the media be allowed a live coverage of the court proceedings in which the NPP will challenge the presidential election results.

He says from time immemorial political parties who fail to secure enough votes along the coastal belt do not win the presidency hence the NPP should not create the perception that the election was rigged since all international and local election observers confirm the election was free, fair and transparent.

He also emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ready to join the case if the NPP proceeds and goes to court.
