Police praise voters in the Asante-Akim South

The police have praised voters in the Asante-Akim South District for their maturity and responsible conduct during the just ended general election.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Sandow Latebu, District Police Commander, said the residents deserved credit for the peace and success of the polls in the area.

The elections passed off in the district without any incident.

Making the commendation through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said despite some challenges at some of the polling centres, the people showed a lot of patience, understanding and co-operated with the election officials and the security personnel.

He cited places like Nnadieso, Breku and Obogu, where voters stood calmly in long queues deep into the night to cast their ballot.

DSP Latebu encouraged the people to continue to uphold the peace and avoid doing anything to undermine the tranquility.

So far two separate post-election incidents have, however, been recorded and both had to do with assault.

He said those were being investigated and invited the political parties, civil society groups and other stakeholders to hold together to prevent any breaches of the law.
