Collapsed Minister Not Dead

THE MEDICAL Director of the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani, Dr. Jacob Abebrese, has dispelled rumours circulating that the Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture Affairs, Alexander Asum-Ahensah, who lost his parliamentary seat in the just ended general elections, has died.

Mr. Asum-Ahensah, the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Jaman North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, who was recently described as a ‘useless minister’ by a chief in the Central Region, lost his seat to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Siaka Stevens and collapsed on the spot just after the results were declared.

Daily Guide learnt that the minister hit his head on the ground when he collapsed and was rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital but was later referred to the Regional Hospital in Sunyani due to his bad condition.

Reports were rife on Monday, especially on the social media networks, that Mr. Asum-Ahensah had died.

However, the Medical Director of the facility told Daily Guide yesterday that the minister was still alive. Dr. Abebrese said the MP was not referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi as suggested by rumour mongers.

According to him, the minister was fine and was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
