The Electoral Commission has pointed out it has taken note of all the anomalies that characterized the voting process and circumstances that led to high number of spoilt and rejected ballot papers.
In an interview with Citi News, Director of Public Affairs at the EC, Christian Owusu Parry said although they extensively educated the general public, the development was an indication that it needed to take steps to intensify the education.
“We did everything to ensure that we reduce the number of rejected ballots. For the first time, we zoomed in on how to thumbprint and fold a ballot paper in adverts and a docudrama, so it is difficult for me to find reasons why the number of rejected ballots is that high,” he stated.
“We will continue to intensify public education as subsequent elections get closer. This is why we redesigned the ballot paper and have put a very thick black lining between candidates so that it will take deliberate efforts for one to thumbprint in such a way that the print overlaps into someone else’s box,” he added.
