I am committed to the growth of our democracy – Mahama

President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has indicated his commitment to ensuring the growth and further consolidation of the nation’s democracy in his government.

Speaking to hundreds of party supporters at a victory rally at Obra Spot in Accra, the President indicated that his victory was not to be interpreted as a victory for only one party or group of people, but one for all the people of Ghana.

President John Mahama was elected President of the republic with 50.70% of total valid votes cast in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The President said: “Our journey has not always been smooth, but we have believed in the promise of what this future holds for this country.”

In his opinion, “every time we empower ourselves individually and collectively to play an active role in the shaping of our countries future, all of us can claim the victory… we have managed to instill the respect for democratic governance into our political and civil life so well that an entire generation of Ghanaians have come of age in our political system, knowing nothing else and expecting nothing less.”

“I believe that this will continue for generations to come and as your President, i wish to reiterate my commitment to the growth and further consolidation of our democracy and its key institutions,” John Mahama added.

President John Mahama thanked the Ghanaian electorate for the trust reposed in him and promised “i assure you that your trust is not misplaced and that i will work hard for and behalf of every Ghanaian.”
