Ghanaians urged to play their expected part to make polls credible

Ghanaians have been urged to play their expected part well to make the December 7 polls clean, fair and credible.

Mrs Cynthia Frempong, Deputy Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ashanti Region, called for vigilance to prevent cheating and other election malpractices.

She was speaking at a forum on peace and conflict resolution held for women leaders in Kumasi by the Department of Women.

It brought together more than 100 queens, religious groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Mrs Frempong said the EC was ready to conduct yet another successful general election.

She appealed to voters to respect the election rules and regulations to stave off needless tension and confusion.

Mrs Frempong added that they should be mindful of their actions to sustain the nation’s peace and its democracy.

Madam Augustina Gyamfi, the Regional Director of the Department, expressed worry about reported incidence of clashes in parts of the country and called on the security agencies to take adequate measures to prevent trouble makers from having their way.

She noted that in the event of conflict, women and children would suffer the most.

Nana Birago Ababio, Secretary of the Afigya-Kwabre District Queen Mothers Association, asked all to work together to protect the peace.
