Party agents warned against spreading misinformation

Mr. Sakara Adamu, Wa East District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), appealed to political party agents tasked to observe tomorrow’s general election, to avoid giving false account of events at polling centres.

He also asked political party executives to ensure that their polling agents are trustworthy and committed people.

Mr Adamu, who was speaking on the code of conduct for political parties at a peace forum in Funsi in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, on Wednesday, said any misinformation about activities at polling stations could result in conflict and violence in the country.

The event was organized by the Centre for Democratic Development in partnership with the NCCE, the Police Service and the churches.

Mr Adamu appealed to party agents to cooperate with election officials to conduct transparent and incident-free elections.

He said where the eligibility of a voter is in doubt the rule of law should be allowed to work rather than physically restraining him or her.

Mr Adamu asked the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to harass voters, snatch ballot boxes thereby disrupting the election process.

Mr Adamu appealed to political parties contesting the elections to accept defeat instead of dwelling on frivolous issues to reject the results. Reverend Father Ralio Faaviel, a Catholic Priest, called on Ghanaians to obey electoral rules to ensure free, fair and transparent polls.
