Brofoyedur gets a community library

The Central Regional Librarian, Mrs Elizabeth Arthur, on Tuesday appealed to pupils and students at Brofoyedur, a fishing community in the Cape Coast Metropolis, to develop the habit of reading in order to enhance their academic excellence and broaden their horizon.

She spoke about the importance of a library to the academic advancement of students and said “a reading community is a winning community” and appealed to all communities to establish community libraries.

Mrs Arthur said this at the inauguration of a community library for Brofoyedur.

The community, which initiated the 50-seating capacity library project, provided labour whilst the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North constituency, Mr Ebo Barton Oduro assisted with funding.

She expressed concern at the inability of most pupils and students to express themselves in the English Language due to the lack of reading and appeals to the pupils in the community to patronize the library.

Mrs Arthur appealed to the people to engage the services of a reliable and committed person to manage the library.

She described the Member of Parliament as a man of vision who understands the importance of education and has contributed immensely towards the development and growth of education in the metropolis.

Mr Anthony Egyir Arkins, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, also commended the MP for his visionary leadership which has enabled the assembly in the past four years to continue and complete almost all the projects started by the previous government and that with the support of the MP a lot more projects were being executed in the area.

He mentioned some of the projects as a science resource centre for basic schools, clinic for the aged, donation of computers to schools and the construction and rehabilitation of roads and school blocks. Mr Barton-Oduro commended the people of the area for their enthusiasm towards the education of their children.
