We established seven nursing training colleges – Prez Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government has, within the last four years, established seven nursing training colleges throughout the country, President John Dramani Mahama said.

He said number of health assistant schools have also been established to step up the number of professionals in the health facilities. President Mahama said this when he inaugurated an 18.7 million euro Trauma and Accident Health Facility at Winneba in the Central Region.

The facility was constructed with an 11.6 million euro loan facility and a 7.1 million euro grant from the Government of the Netherlands.

The 120- bed hospital is to take care of accident cases that had over the years been recorded along the Accra Takoradi road and to cater for emergency cases within the Central and Greater Accra regions.

President Mahama said the establishment of more nursing training colleges and health assistant schools was to train more professionals to run the numerous health facilities that had over the years lacked qualified personnel.

He said healthcare was instrumental in propelling high productivity and government would pursue the agenda to ensure that every community benefitted tremendously from health facilities to ensure good health.

The President entreated the workers to make maximum use of the facility and make it a centre of excellence for patients in the Central Region and beyond. Dr Richard Anagorah, Director of the Hospital, commended the Government for taking bold steps to construct the facility.

He said the hospital was useful to Ghanaians on account of the numerous accidents and the trauma the patients went through in times of those accidents.
