Kokomba fire update: 14 year old found dead under debris

The Ghana National Fire Service has found the body of a 14 year old boy who was killed in the fire that gutted the Kokomba market last night.

According to the Fire Service, though the immediate cause of the fire is yet to be established, reports from eyewitnesses indicate it started from an open fire in one of the wooden structures in the area.

Speaking to Citi Fm in Accra, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglate said the body was found under the debris during a salvaging operation.

“During salvaging was when the body of a boy was found under the debris. He was supposedly in one of the rooms that was gutted by the fire so we are now trying to meet and talk with the parents to know what exactly happened because we were told that was where the fire started,” he stated.

“Yesterday, when the body was located under the debris, we tried to get in touch with the parents but that proved futile so we are trying to get them to clarify what happened before the fire,” he added.
