Ghana is tired of ‘kokofu ball drivers’ –Ladi Nylander

Ladi Nylander, a leading member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), is fuming at what he described as utter “nonsense” at the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The Centre is at the heart of a controversy surrounding allegations of financial misappropriation against immediate past GIPC boss George Aboagye and Chairman of the Board Ishmael Yamson.

Aboagye resigned his position following allegations that he issued a 4,000 cedi cheque to a splinter group of the governing National Democratic Congress, Volunteers for Mahama, and another 20,000 cedi cheque for Yamson’s birthday party.

Yamson claimed to have returned the cheque and stopped payment of the 4,000 cedis to the NDC group, but Aboagye told Joy FM that the Chairman only returned 11,000 cedis, not the full 20,000.

At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, the Nylander called the ensuing controversy at the Centre unfortunate.

He said that what is happening at the Centre does not bode well for investor confidence and charged voters to vote out the ruling party, which he said oversaw these worrying practices.

He described the recent turn of events at the GIPC as “kokofu ball,” a local phrase indicating selfishness and nepotism.

Nylander said that Ghana was tired of these “Kokofu ball drivers”, insisting that a new driver from the PPP could steer the nation to a better future.
