Nana Konadu justifies NDP formation

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, former First Lady, says the formation of the National Democratic Party (NDP) was a reaction to the declining integrity in governance over the past few years.

She said rather than serve the interest of the people; politicians busied themselves acquiring wealth and damned anybody who challenged them.

Nana Agyeman-Rawlings was speaking at a ceremony at Ziope and Agortime-Kpetoe to formally introduce Dr David Yaoga Sunu, a Medical Practitioner, as the NDP parliamentary candidate for Agortime-Ziope.

She said the high level of corruption going on unchecked, could collapse the country.

Nana Agyeman Rawlings said the NDP noted that the political candour needed to superintend affairs of the state in the interest of all.

The former first lady promised to reactivate the local kente industry and make it a big source of income for the people.

She faulted the Electoral Commission (EC) for refusing her bid as presidential candidate of the NDP.

Nana Agyeman Rawlings claimed that the EC did not follow the laid down rules and regulations.

She said the NDP would support its 155 candidates in the race to become members of parliament to contribute to the rebirth of truth in Ghanaian politics.

Dr Sunu, the NDP candidate said he was born and bred in the constituency and therefore knows the problems better than other candidates.

He said the inclination among politicians to be less visible in their communities after being elected and surface with platitudes to seek another mandate must stop.

Dr Sunu said the NDP would bring a lot of development in the lives of women as happened during the era of the 31st December Women’s Movement, when he became Member of Parliament.
