Nsawam court remands two for murdering a retired security officer

The Nsawam District Magistrate Court on Monday reminded two accused persons for conspiracy to commit murder and murder of the late Mr Oteng Twum Vandapuye, a former security officer at Adjor.

They are Eric Kofi Obeng, 61, a farmer of Kwasi Nyarko near Nsawam, and Ibrahim Karimuage, 32, also known as “War Leader, a scrap dealer from Adoagyiri-Nsawam Zongo. Their pleas were not taken and they will reappear on December 10, 2012.

Prosecuting Chief Police Inspector Sampson Dobere told the court presided over by Her Worship Alberta Amponsah that on November 7, 2012, at about 0022 hours the two accused persons and others now at large, wearing masks on their faces with sharp cutlasses, went to the deceased’s house at Adjor near Kwasi Nyarko and inflicted cutlass wound on him. He said in the process the deceased raised an alarm and people came to his rescue.

The prosecution said the accused and their accomplices sensing danger fled into the nearby bush and left the deceased in a pool of blood. The prosecution said the people reported the matter to the Police who rushed the deceased to the Nsawam Government hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The prosecution said the dead body had been sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy. The Police had mounted a search for the rest of the accused persons who are on the run.

The prosecution said there was a case of trespass pending against the first accused person Eric Kofi Obeng and the deceased at the Nsawam Circuit Court in respect of some parcel of land belonging to the deceased of which the first accused is also claiming ownership.

The prosecution said the accused persons and their accomplishes have for some time now been threatening those that had acquired land genuinely from the deceased that the land belongs to the Adjor family of which the first accused, Eric Kofi Obeng was to be head of the family.

The prosecuting said before butchering him to death, on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, the accused persons and others now on the run, as usual went and threatened the late Oteng Twum Vanderpuye and some occupants of land saying they would teach the deceased a bitter lesson he if he failed to vacate the land.
