Farmers Must Insist On Payment of New Cocoa Price

THE EAST Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Emmanuel Victor Asihene, has appealed to traditional rulers in the communities to insist on the payment of the new cocoa price of ?6,200 per kilogram when they go to sell their cocoa to the purchasing clerks in their areas.

Asihene’s appeal was made, following a tour of some of the offices of cocoa buying agencies in the district during which it came to light that some purchasing clerks still pay the old price of ?4,384 per kilogram.

The DCE warned all purchasing clerks who have been paying the old price to refund the difference to the affected farmers by the end of this month.

He threatened that a task force will be formed by the district assembly to tour the communities in the Akyem area and clerks who cheat the cocoa farmers will be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Mr. Christian Attah, a purchasing clerk of Kuapakokoo Company Limited at Akyem Odumase, Lawrence Mensah of Cashpro Company Limited, Akyem Asafo and Charles Odei Barden of Produce Buying Company Limited, at Akyem Akokoo have been invited by the Kyebi police for buying cocoa at the old price.
