2 killed in accident

Two people perished in a fatal accident at Bosomadwe near Nyankomase in the Assin South District of the Central Region when an Opel Astra with registration number GT4476-11, on which they were travelling was involved in an accident.

The bodies of the two, Yaw Anane, 25, and Kojo Opoku, 40, have been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital for autopsy.

Two other victims, Yaw Michael and Kwesi Michael who sustained minor injuries, were sent to the Abura Dunkwa hospital where they were treated and discharged.

The driver of the car, Kweku Badu, who ran away after the incident, was captured and handed over to the police after the owner of the car was arrested.

Badu has since been remanded by the Abura Dunkwa Magistrate court presided over by Efuwa Wirenkyi to re-appear on November 28, 2012.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE on Thursday, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum-Barimah, said the incident happened on Wednesday around 7:00pm.

DSP Twum-Barimah noted that his outfit received information that there had been an accident at Bosomadwe just opposite the Nyankomase Ahenkro Senior High School (SHS), whereupon he dispatched his men to the scene.

He added that when his men got to the scene, they were informed that the victims had been sent to hospital and they followed up to the medical facility.

DSP Twum Barimah said investigations conducted revealed that they were travelling from Bosomadwe to Nyankomase Township when the accident occurred.

The Police Commander stated that on reaching the secondary school junction, the front tyre of the vehicle hit a pothole, which compelled the vehicle to veer off the road, hitting an electric pole and somersaulting in the process.

DSP Twum-Barimah said the impact broke the electric pole by the roadside and the car got damaged.
