The Ministry of Education has slammed the Coalition of Concerned Teachers saying their decision to embark on strike is politically motivated.
The group on Monday began an indefinite strike to demand the restoration of their slashed salaries, resumption of payment of their market premium and the release of capitation grant.
But the Ministry of Education says the teachers have no bargaining power to make such demands.
Its Public Relations Officer Paul Krampah in an interview with XYZ News their strike is political.
“Why should they embark on a strike action when we have only three weeks to elections? Mr. Krampah queried adding that they don’t have the bargaining power, as far as teachers welfare are concerned it the GNAT have the bargaining power.
“So if they have any concerns I would have thought that the best way to go about this is to discuss it with the Ghana National Association of Teachers”.
Meanwhile, the Communications Director of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ali Awudu has denied the ministry’s assertions.
Speaking to XYZ News, he said the teachers know their rights and are not being influenced because of the elections.
