Parliament Suspends Part Of $1.50m Funds For Bui Hydro Electric

A substantial amount of the over one hundred and fifty million dollars additional funding for the Bui Hydro Electric Power project has been frozen by Parliament.

This has become necessary as at the time of approving the additional funding, the legislature was not clear of the breakdown of expenditure for 56 million dollars of the loan.

The ranking member on the Finance Committee, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, raised the issue as the House considered the report of the Joint Committees of Finance and Mines and Energy on the facility.

The Deputy Minister of Energy Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, said the frozen amount does not form part of the core expenses of the power project.

First Deputy Speaker, Doe Adjaho, said Parliament’s embargo on the money is subject to receiving details of how the money will be disbursed.
