Forestry Officer Urges Women To Take To Afforestation

Techiman, (B/A), Aug. 13, – The Wenchi District Rural Forestry Officer, Mr. Charles Osei-Fori, has stressed the need for more women to go into afforestation to help check the rapid depletion of the country’s forest reserves. He said global tree planting is one of the greatest desires of the United Nations (UN) to check desertification. Mr. Osei-Fori made the remark when inaugurating a seven member executive committee of women’s wing of the Ghana Tree Farmers Association (GATFA) at Techiman yesterday. He attributed the worsening environmental situation in the country to the activities of chainsaw operators, charcoal producers and farmers and called for concerted efforts to halt their activities to save the forest from any ”further assault”.
