Nurses and Midwives declare nationwide strike

Hundreds of aggrieved Junior Nurses and Midwives countrywide have laid down their tools in protest over unpaid allowances.

The nurses are demanding salary arears which have accrued since 2010 but the Ministry of Health says they only owe them internship allowances since they only became professionals this year.

The nurses have described the pronouncement from the health ministry as unfair saying they satisfied all requirements before being posted to their various health centers in 2010.

They earlier declared their intention to hit the streets to demonstrate to ensure that their allowances are paid.

But the Nurses and Midwives have decided to abandon their intended demonstration and have rather declared a nationwide strike to press home their demands.
