Okaikoi goes Independent after 2nd NDC candidate emerges

Mr. Andrew Okaikoi, husband to former Information Minister, Zita Okaikoi has filed as an Independent candidate for the Okaikoi North Constituency.

His decision to go Independent comes after another candidate, Abdul Nasiru Abbas emerged claiming that he was the eligible person to represent the party in the constituency.

The Electoral Commission on Wednesday however rejected the nomination forms of both candidates and urged the NDC leadership to decide on who was the eligible person to represent the party in the upcoming Parliamentary elections.

This led to some confusion between the two factions which prompted the EC to call for police protection to prevent any trouble on Thursday.

In an interview with XYZ News, Mr. Okaikoi confirmed that he has decided to file as an Independent candidate to avoid any further trouble.

It is however not clear if the NDC would expel Mr. Okaikoi for going independent after the General Secretary of the Party Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that any member of the party who decides to go independent would be expelled from the party.
