NDC Can Never Sack Jerry Rawlings- Kofi Adams

Kofi Adams, spokesperson for former President Jerry John Rawlings, has questioned the purported consideration by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to expel the former President from the party he founded.

The NDC Founder, appeared at the National Delegates’ Congress of the newly-formed National Democratic Party (NDP), throwing the hierarchy of the NDC off-guard with his caustic speech.

His utterances were particularly seen by some NDC executives as a direct assault on the governing party.

On the podium, Mr Rawlings declared that several aspiring Members of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC were going to lose their seats.

“Can you imagine the number of MPs on the NDC front that are [sic] going to lose? It is not my wish for the NDC to lose and lose badly, but because people want to act out their own agenda [sic],” he said.

He also asserted that the ruling party was desperate to win the December polls at all cost because “they are afraid if we go into opposition, they will taste injustice” and further predicted that a “proper revolution” will hit the NDC after this year’s elections.

However, the NDC leadership say his appearance at the function and his remarks amounts to a conflict of interest and have met to take appropriate action against him.

But even any action, whether punitive or cautionary is taken, Kofi Adams, in an interview with Shamima Muslim on the Citi Eye Witness News, contends that if the NDC leadership really does consider ousting or ‘sacking’ the founder of the party, then they might as well re-register the party in a different name.

“Ex-President Rawlings appearing at the NDP conference did not infringe any constitutional provision. President Rawlings only did an analysis of the current situation on the ground and not something he created by himself. If something is not being done right and we are lucky to have a founder who is talking about it, we should rather find solutions to it…,” he said.

He counseled that instead of looking for ways to sack the founder, they should rather strategise on how to win the upcoming elections looking at the number of people who have filed their names to contest as independent candidate just because they are not happy with some actions and inactions of the party hierarchy.
