Confessions Of A Gun Runner On Tape
With the assistance of some security agents, -Kofi Jumah Tells NPP Supporters
Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the loose-talking member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is reeling under pressure, following an exposure on a secret tape, has confessed to sending a cache of arms and ammunition and ballot papers to Tain in the Brong Ahafo Region during the 2008 elections.
Mr. Jumah, who Thursday accepted that the voice captured on the tape was his, struggled to put up a defence, as well as to substantiate what he secretly told the NPP supporters at that meeting, which, he confirmed, was held in the Manhyia Constituency in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
On that same tape, he said:”I took two cars to Tain, one was loaded with over 30,000 ballot papers and the other car was loaded with guns.”
It is however unclear whether he did so with the backing of the NPP as a party or not.
According to Mr. Jumah, he managed to sneak the arms and the ballot papers to Tain because some of the security agents were for the NPP.
“When we got to where they were searching us, the policeman there gave me an eye and I also gave him an eye,” he said.
According to Mr. Jumah, the soldier at the search point was proving stubborn because he was what he called ‘against.’
“The policeman was part of the guys we sent to … and we brought them back to Tain,” he said.
Mr. Jumah, popularly known as ‘Kofi Ghana,’ said that his police body guard picked conversation with the soldier in order to pave the way for the vehicles to pass.
“When we got to Tain there were no NPP executives there, they had all run away,” he said.
He added: “I called a meeting in a classroom to discuss some few things and wanted them to bury the things.”
Mr. Jumah told his audience that Radio Gold in Accra had already announced that he had been arrested with arms at Tain so he had to be smart.
“When I wanted some people to help they did not receive the ballot papers and guns,” he said.
He said: “I had earlier discussed with the party at Georgia Hotel about how to send ballot papers to Tain, but…,” he said.
Mr. Jumah was exposed in yesterday’s edition of The Enquirer, following accusations he made at a secret meeting with supporters of NPP, that the Electoral Commission Director of ICT is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In his attempt to defend himself, he claimed on certain radio station that he declared the guns.
What is laughable is the fact that the very guns he claimed he declared were later dumped in the bush.
