The management of Prempeh College has expressed concern at the excessive dust that had engulfed the school due to the on-going Sofo-Line Inter-change project in Kumasi.
The project, situated about 50 metres from the College’s premises, had left students and staff battling with air pollution for some time now as they have been left at the mercy of the dust emanating from the activities of the contractors.
Mr. Alfred Okyere-Darko, Assistant Headmaster, told a meeting of the “1977 Year Group” of the College in Kumasi that the management had held discussions with the Chinese contractors on the possibility of addressing the issue.
The contractors, he said, had agreed in principle to bear the cost of the consequences of their activities, saying it was their wish that the project got completed on time to prevent any health hazard.
Mr. Okyere-Darko said the management had resolved to put in place vibrant measures to ensure that the College retained its good name in terms of academic achievements.
He urged the old students to contribute meaningfully towards infrastructural development to facilitate academic work.
Dr. Yaw Poku-Gyamfi, a member of the Group, said the meeting formed part of activities marking the “Homecoming” of the Group.
The programme, he said, would be used by his colleagues to raise funds for development projects at the College.
He said the Group was worried about the air pollution due to the on-going interchange project and called on government to ensure its early completion.
Dr. Poku-Gyamfi said the Group would make the interaction with the students a regular feature on their programme of activities.
