MPs salaries shoot up to GH¢7,200 from GH¢3,000

Members of Ghana’s Parliament are set to receive a huge pay rise after the new consolidated monthly pay level for a Ghanaian MP was set at 7,200 Ghana Cedis.

For years salaries of Ghana’s law makers have been pegged below 3,000 Ghana Cedis, an amount most MPs have described as woefully inadequate.

Information available to XYZ News indicates that the new pay hike will take retrospective effect from January 2009.

Members of Parliament recently complained about their salary which caused late President Mills to order an increment in their pay following recommendations by the Professor Ewurama Addy Committee which was set up in June 2010 to review the Conditions of Service of Article 71 office holders.

Member of Parliament for Shai Osu Doku, Hon. David Assuming recently threatened to stage a one man protest to ensure that increment for MPs do not occur describing agitations by his colleagues for pay rise as unwarranted.
