PPP boycotts Joy FM over ‘Kingmaker’ story?

Information reaching Today indicates that the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) intends to boycott Joy FM, an Accra-based private radio station.

The intended decision by the PPP, the paper gathers, will prevent PPP members from speaking or granting interviews on Joy FM. A source close to the party told Today that the PPP’s intended action stems from what the party describes as a ‘mischievous Kingmaker story’ that Joy FM broadcasted on its network recently. According to the source, Joy FM ‘deliberately’ twisted the said Kingmaker story which story was to sate the fact that no party will win this year’s elections in the first round, and that the PPP in its efforts to create a balance of power in Parliament is working hard to win more parliamentary seats. “…But Joy FM after covering that PPP programme deliberately edited the balance of power bit of the story and instead twisted it claiming PPP were saying they were the kingmakers in this year’s election which story received a lot of negative bashing from other political parties,” the source said. That same story, according to the source, was reported on myjoyonline.com.

Today further learnt that the boycott is believed to be a protest against what the PPP says is Joy FM’s continuous reluctance to give equal opportunities to all parties on its programmes and platforms.
