Police CID begins investigation into alleged suicide by suspect

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ashanti regional police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged suicide committed by a suspect while in the custody of the Buffalo Unit on Saturday.

Twenty-five-year old Yaw Boakye was in detention for allegedly hijacking a taxi cab at Tafo in the region.

He was found dead on Saturday with stab wounds allegedly self-inflicted using broken louvre blades.

The Police Buffalo Unit Commander DSP Joseph Nyaaba in an interview with XYZ News said the deceased suspect took the police by surprise.

“We were going to add an additional charge of escaping from unlawful custody; all of a sudden he broke a louvre blade behind the counter and stabbed himself.

“We rushed him to Komfo Anokye Hospital but unfortunately lost his life so we have handed over to the CID to continue with the investigation”.
