Punish NDC MPs who fail to come to parliament – MP

The Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Hon. David Assumeng is calling on the leadership of parliament to penalize members of the majority who are not participating in its emergency sitting.

The emergency sitting is to see the maturation of CI 78 which is expected to give a legal backing to the creation of the 45 new constituents by the Electoral Commission.

Hon. David Assumeng has also been appealing to his colleagues in the minority to cooperate with the decision of the house to sit on Saturday September 29, which they had strongly opposed.

According to the Shai Osudoku MP, it is the constitutional mandate of members to attend proceedings despite the challenges they may be confronted with.

Hon. Assumeng said “we want to finish this and get back to our constituencies for the constituency jobs that we are all clamouring for. There are some who will not report. That is my worry.”

He said members of his constituency have been calling on him to come to the area but due to the value he places on the parliamentary sittings, he has had to postpone such meetings.
