Striking KATH consultants likely to call off strike today

Consultants at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital would meet this morning to take a decision on their two week old strike.

It follows the issuance of a cheque to pay some of their outstanding allowances by the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry has subsequently asked the consultants to call off the strike which has claimed at least four lives.

Spokesperson for the consultants Dr. Frank Ankobea in an interview with XYZ News hinted that they will call off the strike at the emergency meeting.

“We are meeting today and I am very hopeful that with we have now at hand and with the negotiations going on, I am very hopeful that something good will come out from the meeting” Dr. Ankobea said.

He added that although they have received the cheques for the payment of their outstanding allowances, they can only call off the strike after holding their emergency meeting.
