Ghana’s Parliament could be cited for contempt if they resume sittings on the creation of the 45 new constituencies today.
The legislators who are on recess have been recalled to consider the constitutional instrument paving way for the creation of the constituencies.
The document was earlier withdrawn from the house by the Electoral Commission because of numerous errors. It was later laid before Parliament for consideration and approval after the errors were corrected.
But a Businessman, Ransford France, is seeking a court injunction to stop Parliament from sitting and approving the CI.
His Lawyer Godfred Dame in an interview with XYZ News said Parliament could be cited for contempt if they continue with the process.
“I have no qualms at all, they [Parliament] can just go ahead and do whatever they want to do. The interim has filed its application for interim injunction and I believe that in accordance to due process they [Court] ought to just stay the house” Mr. Dame said.
But a member of the NDC legal team, Abraham Amaliba, disagrees with the stance of the Mr. Dame.
Speaking to XYZ News, Mr. Amaliba said the legislature is an independent body and the court which is under the Judiciary cannot interfere in their work.
