Aliu Mahama Cautions EC

Former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) not create additional 45 constituencies.

According to him, though the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not against the creation of constituencies, the action of the Commission could disturb the peace in the country.

The former Vice President made the remarks when he joined the chiefs and people of Kpone near Tema to celebrate Homowo.

Alhaji Mahama, who led some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to visit 10 major clans at Kpone to wish them well, called on the people to remain united to ensure the development of the area.

The entourage presented some drinks and an unspecified amount of money to the various clans to support them in the celebration of Homowo.

Alhaji Mahama also used the occasion to introduce Solomon Appiah, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area to the people.

The belated decision of the EC, Alhaji Aliu said, will prevent most political parties from electing the right parliamentary candidate for the general elections.

He said it behooves the EC to ensure that the creation of the newly-created constituencies does not affect December polls. Alhaji Aliu implored various stakeholders, including EC, to be tolerant in order to ensure free and fair elections.

Nii Tetteh Otu II, Chief of Kpone, welcoming the former Vice President and his entourage to his traditional home, advised politicians to desist from inciting the youth to foment trouble.

Meanwhile, Solomon Appiah, the NPP’s candidate for the area, pledged to speed up the development of the area.

The former Vice President was accompanied by some party officials including, NPP regional chairman, Ishmael Ashietey, former regional vice chairman, Sheik Alhaji Bandah, among other dignitaries.
