Suspected armed robber remands in police custody

Agona Swedru circuit court has remanded into police custody one of the suspected persons, who robbed and killed an agent of the Glo Communication, in Winneba.

The robbers took away 3,000.00 Ghana Cedis and mobile phones, belongings to Thomas Moses, the deceased, and his wife.

The plea of Solomon N. Ayee was not taken and he would re-appear before the court presided over by Justice Nathaniel Osam on September 7.

Chief Inspector Ivey Agardia told the court that on August 23 this year, at about 2330 hours, a police patrol team received a call that armed robbers had raided the residence of the deceased.

The prosecution said the team rushed to the house of Moses only to realise that he was shot in the chest and killed.

Chief Insp. Agardia said the patrol team later received a telephone call from an informant from Winneba Zion School area that robbers had attacked Mr. Joseph Kwame Armah, a Susu collector.

He said when the patrol team got to the area, they realised that the robbers hit Mr. Armah with a stick on the shoulder, and took away 5,000.00 Ghana cedis and mobile phone, belonging to the victim.

Chief Insp. Agardia said the patrol team mounted a road block at the Winneba Junction-Cape Coast road in an effort to arrest the robbers

He said at 0130 hours, the police saw flushes of torch light in a nearby bush, and when they went closer, they saw some men but the team was able to arrest Ayee.

The court heard that the police retrieved two hand bags at the spot, and when they were opened, SIMI cards believed to belong to Mr. Moses were found in one of bags.

Chief Insp. Agardia said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Winneba Government Hospital Mortuary but it would be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra due to congestion at mortuary.
