The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday said it would ensure that children below eighteen years enjoyed free quality health care when voted into power in the December general election.
This, according to the Party was its commitment to ensure an effective and efficient health delivery system in the country’s health sector, especially in the area of tackling maternal and child mortality.
The promise was made when the NPP engaged the media on its 2012 election manifesto in Accra.
“”The NPP Government would partner with the private sector to train specialised doctors and nurses to also train more midwives, nurses and doctors to increase efficient health delivery in the country.”
Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, National Chairman of the party said, the NPP saw it necessary to create the forum for journalists, who were the mouthpiece of the people to ask questions based on the manifesto for appropriate responses from the party and its flag bearer.
This, he said was the only way the public could get informed and educated on what the party has to offer them to make the best choice.
Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Running Mate of the flag bearer of the NPP, said an NPP government would transform the economy, moving it from raw material economy to that of manufacturing for the development of local industries.
He indicated that the economy would be formalised and expanded with a comprehensive mapping of the country to ensure that people and properties were uniquely defined.
Dr Bawumia noted that there would be a macro-framework to reduce interest rate to instil confidence in business transactions in the country, as well as the establishment of credit unions, with the cash economy changed to electronic based one.
In the area of infrastructure, the NPP said it intends to expand the Accra-Tema Motorway and the Accra to Kumasi road into four lanes.
According to the party, a new airport would be built in the Western Region to transform the aviation sector to meet international standards.
The Party said it would not change the duration of Senior High School Education, adding that, it was unnecessary to play politics with the education of children in the country.
Nana Akuffo Addo, Flagbearer of the Party said it was the NPP Government’s commitment to ensuring that teachers were accorded the maximum respect in the country, adding that, “our government would depend a lot on teachers to achieve free quality education.”
He urged the media to continue its role of deepening democracy in the country.
