An insurance clerk accused of forging documents to siphon monies totaling GH?14, 000 cedis from a Metropolitan Life Insurance Ghana Limited account appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Thursday.
Daniel Adu, 36, is being charged with eight counts of conspiracy to commit crime of forgery and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mrs. Patience Mills Tetteh remanded Adu into police custody to reappear on August 30.
His accomplice Daniel Adu Gyamfi, who is said to be at large, is being sought for by the Police.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Charles Chester said the complainant was a staff of the Metropolitan Insurance Ghana Limited who resides in Accra.
Daniel Adu and his accomplice are former employees of the company stationed at Adabraka and the company’s head office respectively.
Chief inspector Chester said in May 2011, the accused person and his accomplice adopted a modus operandi by forging documents and false insurance claims which led to the company to issue cheques to non existing beneficiaries.
The prosecutor said Adu and Gyanfi however cashed the monies and paid them into their personal accounts.
According to the prosecutor, Gyamfi who was a claim officer, forged death and burial certificates and prepared false insurance claims and the company issued eights cheques from May 2011 and June, 2011.
Adu and Gyamfi succeeded in collecting monies totaling GH?14,000 cedis. Prosecution said when Adu was interrogated he admitted taking delivery of the various cheques from Gyamfi and he (Adu) withdrew the money and paid it into his accounts.
