Foreman jailed for absconding with workers salaries

A circuit court at Tarkwa has sentenced a foreman of the Community Relations Department of Golden Star Wassa Limited Akyempim mine in the Western Region, to 12 months imprisonment for theft.

John Kofi Abban, who allegedly absconded with 4,700.34 Ghana cedis being salaries of workers of the company, pleaded guilty.

Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that on August 6, 2012, the complainant, staff of the company, issued Ecobank cheque to Abban to withdraw for the workers.

The prosecution said Abban after withdrawing the money absconded but he was arrested and handed over to the Police on August 8 by some workers of the company.
