CEPS Officials Should Smoke Out Smugglers – Regional Minister

Bolgatanga (U/E),July 15, Mr. Donald Adabre, Upper East Regional Minister has called on the management of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service(CEPS) to smoke out officers who help smugglers to evade tax. Mr. Adabre, who was launching this year’s tax educational campaign in Bolgatanga said there are reports that some customs officers are colluding with smugglers to evade taxes. He commended committed officers in the service who worked for CEPS to exceed its revenue target of 1.3 trillion cedis last year. Mr. Adabre appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders and the people of the region to assist in tracking down smugglers. A Senior Collector of Taxes , Mr. Matus Mohammed Nasirudeen pointed out that this year’s target of 1.5 trillion cedis can only be achieved with the co-operation of the public. He said the tax campaign is aimed at educating the public on the operations of CEPS. The theme for this year’s campaign is ”indirect tax-revenue mobilisation for national development”
