Lets exhibit unity of purpose – Aidoo

Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Sunday, said the unity of purpose exhibited by Ghanaians regardless of political, religious or ethnic inclinations on the death and funeral of President Mills should not be lost.

He said that unity should encourage them to be steadfast to see the country towards development.

He stated this in an address read for him at the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr by Ahmadi Muslims at Takoradi.

He said it is only right and appropriate to go by the tenets of peace to serve as a befitting honour in memory of the Late President.

“We in Government, will continue to operate the Open Door Policy and as a member of Government, I will welcome you at all convenient times to discuss with you any issues that border on our collective well-being and development,” Mr. Aidoo said.

He said the Electoral Commission (EC) will embark on an exhibition of the Voters’ Register in September and appealed to the people to show interest in the exercise to help the Commission to rectify any error.

Mr Aidoo said the simple civic duty is to peacefully exercise their franchise and not to do anything to disrupt the election.

“We should not allow ourselves to be used as pawns in anybody’s political chess game,” he said. “Let’s ask ourselves why those political office seekers who encourage us to indulge in electoral malpractices and violence do not include their children or any of their relatives.”

Maulvi Ather Zaman Farooqui, Western Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, asked the people to go about their social activities in peace as the elections approached.

They should also be careful not to indulge in activities that would destroy the peace the country is enjoying, he said.
