Forty (40) teachers in some public schools in the Ashanti Region have taken delivery of saloon cars under a deal struck between the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and South Korean-based Company, Eastern Wave Company.
These were bought on hire purchase and the cost ranges between GH¢8,000.00 and GH¢8,400.00.
Beneficiaries made a down payment of GH¢1,500 and the remaining amount spread over a period of four years.
So far, 100 teachers have benefited.
Mr. Abraham Kwaku Bonsu, the Regional GNAT Secretary, handed the keys over to them at a ceremony in Kumasi.
He said the cars would significantly help the teachers to get to school early and allow for effective use of the school contact hours.
Mr. Bonsu commended the government for waiving taxes on the vehicles and encouraged all teachers to embrace the scheme.
GNAT, he said, would continue to work hard to help better the situation of the Ghanaian teacher.
Mrs. Dorothy Manu, Regional Coordinator of the Teachers Korean Car Beneficiary Group (TKCBG), said they were grateful to GNAT for the part it played to get the deal through.
Oduyefuo Nana Asabre, General Secretary of TKCBG, said they would do everything to ensure that they meet the payment schedule to sustain the scheme.
