Traders in Ho Central Market Wednesday commenced a three-day mourning of President John Evans Atta Mills with early morning devotion at the facility.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed that the traders, mainly women, suspended their economic activities for three hours in memory of the late President. Many shops were closed and traders dressed in red and black clothes, converged under a shed, sang dirges and shed tears.
Madam Theresa Dagbe Mansa, Ho Market Queen, said the news of the death of President Mills disrupted trading activities last two weeks, and the traders were yet to recover from the shock of the information. She called for an end to politics of insults.
Pastor Emmanuel Quist Agboka of New Creation International Church, who led the devotion, said some people failed to appreciate the leadership style of the late President Mills because of their “selfish interests.”
He said the late President was “a true father for all”, and urged President John Dramani Mahama to build on the “peace foundation laid by Professor Mills.” Pastor Agboka called on Ghanaians to show love to one another and let peace prevail in the country.
Meanwhile, GNA observed that social and economic activities in the Town were generally low, and the main bus terminal and streets were deserted. Few people were spotted around television sets watching the funeral proceedings at the State House, Accra.
The Volta Regional Coordinating Council is organising a candle light procession and vigil on Thursday night, to climax the funeral of President Mills in the region.**
