Cabbie dead, two others injured in a fatal accident at Apowa

A fatal motor accident on Sunday killed a taxi driver, John Ackon, 30, and two others were severely injured.

The Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Ayamga Aklogo Yakubu, confirmed the tragic accident to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.

He said the accident occurred on August 05 at Apowa, near Takoradi at about 0530 hours early Sunday morning.

Mr. Yakubu said Ackon was driving a taxi at top speed from Takoradi towards Agona Nkwanta and on reaching Apowa, the deceased tried to overtake another vehicle and in the process collided with a vehicle.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle, Eric Mensah, 27, and a passenger on board, Madam Linda Nyarko, a nurse, was injured after both vehicles caught fire.

Mr. Yakubu said intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service prevented more lives being lost.**
