TOPY explodes over attempts by NPP to attack Mahama

A group calling itself the Team of Popular Youth (TOPY) says it has picked up intelligence report from the corridors of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which suggests that the party was gearing up to unleash barrage of allegations, to tarnish the image of newly sworn in President, John Dramani Mahama.

In a strong-worded press statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by its National Leader, Marcus Garvin Adampah, TOPY insisted that some media outlets, particularly in Accra, would aide the NPP communication team to execute its sinister and malicious intent.

“… New Patriotic Party’s communication team in collaboration with some media outlets to quickly descend on the new president, with wicked rumours that would arouse the wrath of Ghanaians against him and the NDC in general,” aspects of the two-page release asserted.

According to the group, its scouts are reliably informed that the top hierarchy of the NPP are in a distress mood regarding the enormous sympathy the death of Professor Mills was attracting, hence the decision to incite public anger against the NDC.

“… one of the architects bemoaned the fact that everything seemed to have been working well for the NPP campaign especially when the former president and founder of the NDC, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings together with the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Martin Amidu, also came on board to turn the heat on their own party and government.

But as if fate was a saviour, the subject of attack has been taken away, diverting attention to the good things the ex-president has done, and the NPP is left with no option than to find a clever way of substituting him with his successor,” the statement added.

It said, in one of their hatched plot, a website by the name focusghana.com shall be in operation to publish falsify stories, including one with a caption “Atta Mills Was Allegedly Poisoned-Castle Sources”.

The group noted that the NPP in that publication would attempt to propagate that the ex-president was killed because he flatly refused to sign a dubious contract.

Against that backdrop, the group urged Ghanaians, especially followers of the NDC to remain resolute in the face of unnecessary provocations from elements of the NPP.

The statement further seized the opportunity to extend the group’s condolences to the former First Lady, Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills and congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for his elevation.**
