Public vetting of Amissah-Arthur is wrong – Twumasi Appiah

A member of the Parliament’s Appointment Committee, Felix Twumasi Appiah has kicked against the decision to publicly vet the Vice Presidential nominee, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.

According to him, it will be unfair to vet Mr. Amissah-Arthur in public when there are precedents to show that some high profile persons such as the Chief Justice and the National Security advisor who faced the committee had their sessions in camera.

The Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday forwarded the approval of the Vice presidential nominee to the appointment committee.

Senior members of the committee agreed to go with a public vetting instead of in camera since the nominee is a public figure.

But Mr. Twumasi Appiah is angry at the move and has threatened to join some of his colleagues to object to the procedure when it begins on Monday.

Speaking to XYZ News on Thursday, Mr. Twumasi Appiah said the Vice Presidential nominee must be accorded the same respect that was given to the National Security Chief and the Chief Justice.

“I disagree with the decision of the committee and indeed it is because I was not part of the committee at the time they were meeting because most of were not here in Accra.

“If the National Security Advisor could be vetted in camera; then we are talking about the Vice President of Ghana” Mr. Twumasi Appiah.**
