A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a 54- year-old farmer, Kwasi Kumi, to 15 years imprisonment in hard labor for having sex with his 17 year-old daughter. He pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the victim lives with her parents at Bissaso near Samrebio in the Western Region.
He said in May, the victim and her parents together with her young siblings travelled to Tepa in the Ashanti Region for a funeral.
Detective Amponsah said, after the funeral, the victim together with her siblings and father took the lead to Bissaso leaving the mother behind.
According to the Prosecutor, about two weeks later, the accused called the daughter to his room.
He said when the victim entered the room, the convict grabbed her and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her whilst the siblings were playing outside, after which he told her not to tell anyone about the incident.
Detective Amponsah said on June 9, the victim started bleeding from the vagina and when she was questioned she narrated her ordeal to the mother.
The Prosecutor said the victim was sent to the Samartex hospital for treatment and was admitted and discharged later.
He said a report was made to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.**
