Man in police grips for tampering with electricity meter

Security personnel from the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has arrested one Ibrahim, for allegedly tampering with the electric power distribution network at Nyohini a suburb of Tamale.

Mr. David Adomako-Mensah, Acting Director of Services at NEDCo, in a release on Wednesday said the culprit was arrested upon a tip-off.

He said the man, who had been identified only as Ibrahim was arrested near the Nyohini Vocational Training Centre when he was tempering with the meter.

He has since been handed over to the Tamale police who are investigating the case.

Mr. Adomako-Mensah reminded the public that it was an offence to interfere with a public utility’s distribution system and installations, adding that, any person or group of persons caught would face the full rigours of the law.

He appealed to the public to volunteer information leading to the arrest of any person who engaged in illegal acts within its power distribution system for rewards.

A source from the Northern Regional police command confirmed to the GNA that the suspect was in custody pending investigations but refused to give further details.**
