Honour Mills with a peaceful election – WANEP

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) has indicated that Ghana will do the late President John Mills a great disservice if the forthcoming December elections are not conducted peacefully.

The organization hence expects all the major political stakeholders to advance their political discourse in a manner that will preserve the nation’s peace before, during and after the December general elections.

The Executive Director of WANEP, Emmanuel Bombande expressed this sentiment in a press statement copied to Citi News as the nation mourned the demise of the late President.

The statement described the late Ghanaian leader as “a beacon of peace whose shining example must inspire every Ghanaian to co-exist peacefully.”

Parts of WANEP’s tribute to the late President Mills read;

“The late Professor Mills never hesitated both at private and public encounters in his exhortations to promote peaceful co-existence of the people of Ghana and the peace of the West Africa sub-region.

His demeanour, humility and integrity espoused the values and principles of peace.

At this time of great loss and in expressing our sympathies, WANEP appeals that the greatest honour that the people of Ghana can bequeath in the celebration of the legacy of President Mills is to live everyday with respect and tolerance for another.

Above all, every Ghanaian should contribute and make an effort to ensure that the December general elections are peaceful.”
