GTUC expresses condolence to Ghanaians

The Ghana Trade Union Congress together with its affiliate unions has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and Ghanaians on the death of President John Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by Mr. Kofi Asamoah, Secretary-General of the Union said, “we recall the President’s return from the United States where he underwent routine medical check-up.”

It said the Union was saddened by the death of the President, which was a great loss to the people of Ghana.

The statement praised the former President as a great man by all standards who left the comfort of academia into unchartered waters of partisan politics.

“In the process he ascended to the highest office of the land, he has paid his dues and we believe his life will be placed firmly in the memory of all citizen of Ghana,” it added.

The Union urged all Ghanaians to be circumspect and have unity of purpose in line with the country’s cherished traditions as the country mourns the former President.**
