Holistic education is a shared responsibility-Educationist

Mrs Kate Donkor, Greater Accra Manager of the Methodist School Unit, has noted that the upbringing of the child and academic performance are shared responsibility for all in order to facilitate quality education.

She said, even though measures have been put in place to ensure quality education, there was the need for parents to monitor the performance of their wards.

Mrs Donkor said this at the Parent Teacher Association of the Abossey Okai Methodist School during the academic facility’s Speech and Prize Giving Day celebration in Accra on the theme: “Holistic education: Key to Ghana’s Future.”

She said it is prudent for parents to actualize the saying that “charity begins at home” by giving them the basic foundation of education and ensure responsible parenting at home.

Mrs Donkor admonished parents to provide their wards with the basic necessities.

“While government is responsible for the formation of policies and development projects, it is the duty of the children to be focused, dedicated and committed towards developing their future,” she added.

Mrs Donkor said the church had contributed meaningfully to the development of the country which has helped to address some of the social vices among the youth.

She commended the role played by the media in its quest to promote education and appealed to journalists to use their medium to constantly organise educational programmes to equip the youth to build a brighter future.

Mrs Patience Patricia Amelorku, Headmistress of the School said the theme was appropriate since it focused on the total development of the child in becoming a responsible asset for the society.

She said the School has the cardinal principle to train the child at the foundation level so that no matter the circumstances the child is able to fit into the society and make positive impact.

Mrs Amelorku, urged the students to be discipline and learn hard to achieve their future aspirations.**
